This Foundation was established by Francisco and Margarita in 2002 to assist and benefit five rural indigenous communities in the mountains near Otavalo. It has connected the five villages with the common goals of running water, the creation of a community center, and improved educational conditions. Over the years when the government eliminated the rural schools, monies have been diverted to scholarships to support the children attending schools in Otavalo. We discovered this project when we stayed with the founders at their hotel (since sold) and we were so impressed with the commitment of the village elders. While we have helped pay for the community center and school expenses, our grants now are used entirely for scholarships. We visit occasionally and keep in contact through email and social media.
