My sister Roberta introduced me to this program which mirrors so much of what I have experienced traveling. Wherever I travel and talk with women, I am consistently impressed with the fact that we are all dealing with the same issues. The differences in our lives make these everyday concerns of raising families, improving our futures, finding joy, etc. so much more difficult for most of the women around the globe, especially in developing countries. Add to this the conflicts of war, and the difficulties can become insurmountable. Women for Women International provides women survivors of war, civil strife and other conflicts with the tools and resources to move from crisis and poverty to stability and self-sufficiency, thereby promoting viable civil societies. Individuals can donate money to help women in countries such as Iraq, Sudan, Kosovo, Nigeria, Afghanistan, and others or participate in a unique sponsorship program, building a one-to-one relationship between you and a woman who lives in one of these war torn countries. With the financial backing of Global Goods, I have been sponsoring Merita Avdi Xhakolli in Kosovo by sending a monthly donation, writing letters, sending photos, and hoping to make the world a kinder place for Merita with my financial and emotional support.
