Yayasan Bhakti Senang Hati, Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia
This is an impressive Balinese-run foundation that encourages social, economic, and physical independence and integration for people with physical disabilities. In Indonesia disabilities are often considered a result of black magic or karmic punishment resulting in many people with disabilities being socially isolated. Bhakti Senang Hati provides the education and support necessary to fully engage with society and to develop vocational skills for economic independence. The many supports include basic education, English language skills, traditional art competences, computer skills, physical therapy, social/cultural outreach, and vocational training. Grants from Global Goods have supported the education, vocational, and technology programs as well as building projects. We visit yearly to spend time with our compassionate and courageous friends and to discuss the project’s needs.
