About Us

Our ORGANIZATION

Global Goods is a small organization dedicated to making a difference in the world one person at a time. We know that education improves the quality of life for individuals, families, and villages by providing opportunities to advance and enrich lives. By investing in formal education, training programs, and vocational projects globally, we believe these students will have a better quality of life.

Our History

Global Goods began in a small market town in Tanzania, East Africa.

What started as a conversation with a young man, Amon, developed into a sponsorship for him to attend Dar Es Salaam University. While Amon was in school, he sent some handmade items for us to sell as a way to help with his tuition expense. These items sold quickly and friends clamored for more. I began to think how this could benefit so many people: less fortunate youth overseas could receive continued educational support; artisans from around the world could sell their products; and local consumers could have access to unique, desirable goods. And so, with a love of travel and appreciation for the value of education to improve lives, Global Goods was born. Our original inspiration, Amon, graduated in 2001 and is now an independent businessman living with his family in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. We are the proud godparents of his eldest son Rodgers, named after us.

Our specific global projects have been serendipitously discovered through personal recommendations and connections. A guest house in Guatemala, Central America, introduced us to a free indigenous school, a brochure by a graphic artist brought us to our Balinese foundation, a cousin of a friend introduced us to Uganda, etc. Some projects we visit yearly while others less often. In person and on line, we discuss the needs, and then make decisions about how best to use the grant.

Global Goods Organization is partially funded by selling handmade items from around the globe. We source the products directly through our travels focusing on women artisans, family based businesses, and small grassroots cooperatives. We have a small seasonal store in our home and a school fundraising program. We also depend on the many people who support us with direct donations.

Talent is universal but opportunity is not.
Give the gift of education.

We appreciate and thank you for any donation!
