On a buying trip to Otavalo in 2002, we learned about this foundation created by the owners of the hotel (Margaret and Frank of Hotel Ali Shungu) where we were staying. It has connected five villages with the common goals of running water, improved school conditions, and creation of a community center that includes a medical/dental clinic, vocational training center, and a meeting place. We have donated money and supplies for these common goals as well as supported three girls in secondary school. In our trips there, we have brought many bags of needed supplies and three donated laptop computers. We have also been very pleased to have several Global Goods customers donate yearly scholarship money for more girls to continue in school. The progress that has been made and the friendships we have formed keep us inspired to do more.
